Boycott upcoming Lok Sabha elections: Tarun Uppal
3/16/2019 9:26:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 16: Tarun Uppal, social activist and core committee member of Anna Hazare Anti-corruption Movement urged upon the people of Jammu to boycott the upcoming the Lok Sabha elections in the State.
In the meeting held here on Saturday, Tarun Uppal said that the participation of political parties in the Lok Sabha elections are purely to set their personal motives as they have no concern about the sufferings of the common masses. He reiterated that the political parties are befooling the people of the State on the name of development.
"If the political parties are serious about the sufferings of the people, they should not be in favour of holding elections in the State. Not a single political party took an initiate to strengthen the democracy in the State. People of the State are very wise and will take every decision after assessing the situation in the State," he said, adding that the present situation is not conducive for holding elections in the State.
Tarun Uppal said that the people of Jammu are the victims of Kashmir centric policies and the same has done by the BJP also. He said that the people of Jammu region had given massive mandate to the BJP but in return the BJP has failed to fulfill its poll promises. It's the only reason that the people of Jammu region are fed with the hollow policies of the political parties of the State, he said.
Tarun Uppal said that the people of Jammu region are demanding delimitation before holding ant elections in the State. He asserted that Kashmir region has got about 12,000 square kilometers of area, 46 Assembly seats and three Lok Sabha Constituencies. On the other hand, Jammu region/province has got 28,000 square kilometers of area and population as assessed after last census was more than in Kashmir region, he said.
Uppal termed it as a great discrimination that Jammu region has got two Lok Sabha seats and Kashmir province four while Kashmir region has 46 Assembly Constituencies whereas Jammu region has only 37 Assembly seats.
"This is great discrimination with the Jammu province and that is why it is essential to hold Delimitation before holding Assembly elections," he said.
