Early Times Report

kishtwar, Mar 16: A week after Early Times published the news report highlighting delay in construction of 13 km Dunadi-Bunjwah road the sources told "Early Times" that JKPCC spent Rs. 1147.52 Lakhs on this road till ending 2015.
Sources said that the work should have been completed by the end of December 2016 subject to the condition that farmers, whose land would be acquired for the road project, would not create hurdles. They said that Rs 1147.52 lakh worth road was handed over to JKPCC by PWD (R&B) in March 2010 for upgradation and improvement of the existing road stretch added that the said amount include the cost of Rs 1147.52 lakh excluded land, fruit and structural compensation which was to be paid by R&B department.
The sources said that after allotment of the contract to JKPCC, they started the work in June 2010 and added that due to land compensation issues, the people from time to time stopped the construction work and did not allow to carry it forward till compensation will not paid to them.
The sources said that in case there was fast track disposal of land acquisition cases and clearance of bottle neck areas, JKPCC would complete the project by December 2016 with 8 m road width and black-topping, but to the disappointment of more than 40000 population of Bunjwah the road has yet to see the light of the day even after fixing the dead line by the JKPCC failure as a result of which this road is still incomplete even after 17 years.
The sources said that after several years delay on part of District administration, R&B and JKPCC, the contractors also demand revision of the schedule rates--the matter pending between the contractor and the department and required expedite the process.
The sources said that in addition to above mentioned amount, more money has been withdrawn for temporary maintenance of the road, beside the government is also spending huge money on the salaries of the employees engaged on this road as well.
It is pertinent to mention here that a deputation of inhabitants of Bunjwah and its adjoining areas several times in past also met successive Deputy Commissioners of the district and apprised them about the slow pace of work by JKPCC on Dunadi-Bunjwah road.
