Pakistani troops violate ceasefire in Poonch, Army retaliates | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 16: Pakistan Army on Saturday violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing and mortar shelling from across the border at around 1:30 pm in Mankote sector. Indian Army also retaliated effectively. There was no report of any casualty was reported on the Indian side in the cross-border firing. Tensions flared up between both countries after India carried out air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot on February 26 to avenge the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed on February 14. Since then there has been a spurt in cross border firing by Pakistan side. Recently, four civilians were killed and many injured in ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in the state, especially in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajour. Earlier this month, the Indian Army warned the Pakistani side "not to target civilian areas" as the latter fired mortar shells in forward posts and civilian areas. On March 13, the cross-LoC trade was reportedly suspended after Pakistan Army violated ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked mortar shelling and small arms firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. |
