CEO J&K interacts with students of IIMC, Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 2: Shailendra Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, interacted with students of IIMC, Jammu Campus. Elaborating on the Parliament Election 2019 'Desh ka Maha Tyohar', he highlighted the steps taken by Election Commission of India to ensure free & fair election. Besides awareness programme, Election Commission has taken various steps to empower every citizen to report model code of conduct violation through C-vigil app. Responding to observation of a student about non availability of communication facilities /mobile phones in remote and backward areas, Sh. Kumar informed that there are more than 2 crore mobile connections in the State with about population of 1.25 crore and it is expected that by one or other way, most of the eligible voters will get desired information. Presently, use of C-vigil will act as a watchdog. Citizens can upload photos or videos to report any violation of model code of conduct enabling Election Authorities to initiate the desired action, he added. Additional CEO, Raman Kesar, Regional Director, IIMC, Manohar Khajuria, State Nodal Officer, in charge Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP), Riaz Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Anubhav Mathur and Academic Associate Ravia Gupta were also present during the interaction. Riaz Ahemd conveyed that this election is the world's most expensive election. The VVPAT- (voter-verified paper audit trial), the costliest equipment having a foolproof system is being used to verify the vote by voter. This time, Election Commission of India has put in place 'National Voter's Service Portal' NSVP which can be used for by any eligible voter for any type of information related to election including voter's registration/updation/ correction etc. Kesar informed that India has reached a stage where country has shifted from ballot boxes in the initial elections to EVMs and to VVPAT. Election Commission ensures revision of electoral rolls every year to include new eligible voters in the list. Besides, this time various facilities for persons with disabilities are the new feature supported by volunteers to help them at the polling booth will help them to cast their vote. Several election literacy clubs in school and colleges were part of this election awareness programme in which even student ambassadors were designated to spread election awareness. |
