J&K not the only state, which enjoys special status | 'Mere statements won't help, NC leaders need to educate people about benefits of Articles 35A, 370' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2: The main Opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference, has to put its act together to make people understand the benefits of the Articles 35A and 370. Mere rhetoric is not going to help its cause. Recent statement of BJP National President Amit Shah that if the party is voted to power it would revoke the Article 35A by the year 2020 is a clear hint that the saffron party has already made up its mind to do away with the special status of the Jammu and Kashmir. An analyst while talking to Early Times said that NC leaders need to concentrate on educating people about the benefits of both these Articles. "Only raising pitch and giving big statements ahead of the elections is not going to help anyone's cause. These Articles touch the skin of the residents of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh," he added. The analyst said that in Ladakh and Kargil regions of the state, people of all the communities had reached on an understanding long back that they would not sell their land to anyone even from Jammu and Kashmir and till date they continue to stand firm on their resolve. On Tuesday National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah said that if Article 370 is done away with it would end J&K's relationship with the union of India. He said, "If they say these constitutional provisions are temporary then accession is also temporary and they have to be ready for that as well. "Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley said they will abolish Article 35A and Article 370. Let them do it, we will also see how they can do it," he said. A Kashmir watcher said, "Mere statements won't work. The NC leaders have to tell the people that Jammu and Kashmir is not the only state which enjoys special state. There are many states in North East where outsiders are not allowed to buy the properties. "In 2016 BJP led government passed Manipur Peoples in Manipur Legislative Assembly. The bill primarily defined Manipuris and non-Manipuris on the basis of their origin. Even the Bill advocated Inner Line Permits for the outsiders. The Bill is awaiting President's nod to become a law in the state," he added. The Kashmir watcher said that common people are not aware about what's happening in the other states. "National Conference leaders need to create awareness rather than projecting themselves as the only people who can save Jammu and Kashmir," he added. |
