Ahead of LS polls, army soldier on leave shot dead in Sopore

BARAMULLA (Sopore), Apr 6: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, suspected militants on Saturday shot dead an army man in Warpora area of Sopore town.
Sources said that the gunmen fired upon Mohammad Rafee Yatoo at his home at Warpora at around 5:25 pm, Warpora is just few kilometers away from Sopore main town.
The passerby has said that, Rafee Yatoo (25) S/O Ghulam Mohi-ud Din Yatoo R/O Astan Mohalla was attacked from a very close range; with the result he was lying in a pool of blood, after which he was taken to nearby hospital; however on way he succumbed to his injuries, said sources.
Sources said that Yatoo, a soldier was working with JAKLI (The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, is an infantry regiment of Indian Army, from past few days the slain army personnel was at home on leave when he was fired upon. SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that the militants fired upon Yatoo from point blank range and he suffered critical injuries, adding a team of security forces was sent to the spot to ascertain the situation. Soon after the incident a Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers, sources informed. However sources said that, the panic gripped the whole area, at the time of filling this story, a large gathering of people was waiting for the participation in his funeral.
If sources are to be believed they said that, in the second last encounter that took place in Astan Mohalla, the militants were hiding in the next of their house after which three militants were killed. The deceased is survived by old aged parents, including Father and Mother, three brothers among which one is a private teacher and two are labourers, where she is having two sisters and a wife; he was married some months ago, sources told Early Times. Pertinently, the Lok Sabha election for 1-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency will be held on April 11, for which the administration has made an elaborate security arrangements.
