2 teachers beat, injure Class 7th student | | | Abid Hussain Wani Early Times Report Doda, Apr 29: A Class 7 student was severely beaten by two teachers in a government school of Doda, leaving him injured. Abdul Hamid, son of Alaf Din, a student at Government High School, Bagla Bharath, was thrashed inside the classroom, reports said. It was not know why the student was beaten up, despite laws in place against corporal punishment in educational institutions. Meanwhile, All India Student Federation (AISF) has demanded strict action the erring teachers. Speaking to Early Times, AISF leader Sulinder Parihar said that teachers should adopt persuasive measures instead of corporal punishment to deal with the students. "The government should impart behavioural training skills to teachers so that before joining their duties they are armed with discipline," said Parihar. A report published by national news channel on its portal says that "first violation of the ban (on corporal punishment) will invite up to one year jail or fine of 50,000 or both. For subsequent violation, imprisonment could be extended to 3 years with the additional fine of 25,000 rupees. Heads of school will be responsible to prevent corporal punishment. The teacher is who found guilty could be denied promotion and even increments. A child rights cell should be set up in all schools where children can lodge a complaint". |
