Ram Madhav violates MCC by addressing rally in already polled area, ECI yet to respond

srinagar, Apr 29: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has been viewing the violations on account of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) enforced in connection with Lok Sabha polls seriously, but the poll body has failed to notice a glaring violation that came up lately in the Kashmir valley.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) National General Secretary, Ram Madhav addressed an election rally at Khanabal-Anantnag on Saturday (April 27) despite the fact that election in the Anantnag district of the South Kashmir's Lok Sabha seat was held on April 23.
The campaigning for the Anantnag district ended in the evening on April 21 but still then the BJP National General Secretary chose a part of the district as venue of his rally on April 27, four days after the election was held.
In order to cover up for the gross MCC violation the BJP has claimed that the function was not a public rally, but a convention of party workers. The ECI should also look into this aspect as no party can hold a convention at a place where elections have already been held.
Given the fact that BJP held the rally at Anantnag after the conduct of elections the ECI has no right whatsoever to stop the other parties to do the same. In other words it can be said that there is no concept of conclusion of poll campaign in the Kashmir valley especially when it comes to BJP.
It would be in place to mention here that this poll rally of BJP was in the news after reports came out that a police vehicle was used to distribute food packets among the rally participants. The police have already ordered for a probe in the incident so that the truth comes out.
At the rally Madhav gave credit to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for taking action against militants and said that she was responsible for everything that happened in the state from 2016 to 2018.
"Today she is telling you that she wasn't being allowed to do anything but let me tell she is responsible for everything that happened in state in year 2016, 2017 and 2018. Efforts initiated against militancy and militants were also started by her as she was the chairman of unified High Command and we supported her all decisions," Madhav said.
Madhav said that they joined hands with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to bring back peace in Kashmir. "Modi ji joined hands with Mufti Sahib in 2015, but unfortunately he left this world too early. Then came her daughter but it (alliance) didn't work as they (PDP) wanted to continue conflict politics while as we (BJP) wanted to peace and development," he said.
Madhav blamed NC and PDP of pushing Kashmir into chaos. "In 1975 Indira Gandhi Ji did an experiment and initiated a process for making the situation in Kashmir conducive but in 1987 Farooq Abdullah ji rigged the elections and failed a sincere effort," he said
Madhav said that the regional parties (NC and PDP) have always sabotaged New Delhi's peace efforts in Kashmir. "Peace is requite for development and they want you to suffer that is why they don't support peace efforts," he added.
Elections for the South Kashmir Lok Sabha seat are to be completed in three phases. While the first phase polling covering the Anantnag district culminated on April 23, the second one for Kulgam district culminated today at 4 PM. The third and final phase would be conducted on May 6 in Pulwama and Shopian districts.
