S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 17: The prices of essential commodities especially edible items have risen sharply during the holy month of Ramadan, and poor people find punches in the purse while in the market. Riyaz Ahmad Mir a local resident of Baramulla said that the authorities concerned have not taken enough measures to keep a check on the rising prices, it seems that the erring shopkeepers are busy in making profit during Ramdhan (Fasting). People were expecting a slump in prices during the holy month but the reverse has happened, he said everything ranging from fruits to mutton has become dearer. Banana costs Rs 80-90 per dozen, Mango at Rs 80-90, water melon at Rs 40-50 respectively. Nisar Ahmad from Sopore told ET that, Nadroo is being sold at Rs 250-280, Meat at Rs 500 per kilogram , chicken at Rs 160 kg, Tomato at Rs 60 kg, Peas at Rs 60 kg. Perhaps Ramdhan doesn't teaches bargaining or profiting than the genuine marketing, but this time shopkeepers are taking undue advantage and they have been selling these essential commodities at varying prices, said a local resident of Sopore. There is no end to this loot, if the same rate is followed in other markets of India, then we have no objection, but the rates are varying, in Srinagar there are different rates. This is the responsibility of Consumer Affairs Public Distribution (CAPD) Department to check the genuine rates and compel the shopkeepers to adhere there rate list which they have issued. Same is the case in other markets of north Kashmir like of Kupwara, Handwara and Bandipora, the consumers from these areas have said that, the prices of essential commodities have gone very high, and no body from the department concerned monitors the inflation of prices. |
