| Deputy Mayor SMC joins PC | | |

Srinagar, May 17: Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Sheikh Imran on Friday joined the Sajjad Lone led Peoples Conference (PC) party. Sheikh Imran joined in the presence of Party President Sajad Lone, Mayor SMC Junaid Mattu, and General Secretary Imran Raza Ansari and former MLA Bashir Ahmed Dar.
Sheikh joined the People's Conference at Lone's residence in presence of senior party functionaries including general secretary Imran Ansari. SMC Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu was also present. Sheikh had become the deputy mayor of SMC with Congress support. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor have been fighting each other publicly since November 2018 with both of them accusing each other of malpractices.
Imran, who won ULB elections as an independent candidate was supported by Congress councillors as deputy mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
He was a bitter rival of Peoples Conference member and SMC mayor Junaid Azim Mattoo and was consistently speaking against him on social media and other platforms.
The "bad blood" between Imran and Mattoo was creating a daily flutter in Srinagar, which had at the same time created a negative perception of the functioning of Srinagar SMC. However, recently the two rivals reconciled at a function in Srinagar. |
