Mohra Kallar village sans drinking water | | | M S Nazki Early Times Report MENDHAR, May17: Mohra Kellar village is without potable water leaving as many as 100 households high and dry. Locals said lakhs of rupees have been spent on laying of supply pipes by the PHE department but nothing has changed. The affected residents, especially women, spend most of their day collecting water from a well which is the only source of potable water to about one hundred village households. "We have to first lift the water from the well, then take it home miles away and we have been doing this for the past more than a year now," said Er M R Kazafi , a Social Worker resident of the village. "The women take turns to lift the water from at least 30 feet to fill the pitchers. The government may claim to have spent lakhs on providing this basic facility to people here but you can see how we are craving for water." The locals said the water shortage will worsen in the coming weeks as water level is likely to shrink further in summer months ahead. Despite many representations to the concerned officials, the affected residents said the water supply has not been restored for the past many years. Almost every household has a water connection but the taps are running dry, Tahir Khan , a local resident. The affected residents said their repeated representations and pleas to the concerned officials to address their problem have fallen on deaf ears. "We have been deprived of this basic facility and left to fend for ourselves," said Tahir |
