Awantipora-Sangam stretch of NH-44 declared industrial Estate area | Big boost for Cricket Bat Industry! | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, May 30: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday notified Awantipora-Sangam stretch of NH-44 as industrial Estate area to boost the bat industry and fulfil the long pending demand of bat manufacturing unit holders. In this regard, a formal order was issued by Chief Conservator of Forests, central Sandeep Kujar (IFS) on Thursday. According to unit holders, the order has legalized the bat industry in Kashmir. "As recommended by you vide letter No. CCF/K/L/19/326-66 Dated 17-05-2019, I am directed by Pr Chief Conservator of Forests J&K to grant No Objection Certificate (NOC) in favor of Industries and Commerce Department, subject to the condition that SFC and Social forestry area be excluded, while notifying the area- [500 Mtrs on each side of N.H.44 from Jawbrara Awantipora to Donipora Sangam] as industrial Estate area," reads official communiqué of Forest Department addressed to Chief Conservator of Forests- Kashmir, a copy of which lies with Early Times. Earlier, Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, South Circle Bijbehara Tawheed Ahmad Deva along with officers of Forest, SFC, Social Forestry and Industries Department had held meetings, visited the area and finally recommended that the area be notified as the bat manufacturing unit holders were facing problems in getting their units registered. According to official figures, in Anantnag and Pulwama there are around 264 bat manufacturing units along National Highway stretch. The Jawbrara Awantipora to Donipora Sangam stretch of highway was falling within forest limits and as such the units were operating illegally since 1947. Bat manufacturing unit holders hailed the decision and said that it will give a flip to bat manufacturing industry. "Area from Jawbrara Awantipora to Donipora Sangam was falling within the forest departments limits therefore we were operating these units illegally. So firstly, now when the area has been notified by the forest department will formally get our units registered with the Industries Department and can avail lot of benefits and insensitive which other manufacturing unit holders avail," Mohd Amin, a resident of Awantipora said. He said that earlier they had requested Industries Department to provide the land for units but the department couldn't and finally now they agreed with us and got the area notified. Amin says that all unit holders operating in the notified area were operating machines illegally as the Industries Department have gave them registration for using hand tools but now they can run the modern machines for manufacturing bats. "Forest Department could often come and stop us from running units. They used to seize our machinery and even the government wasn't allowing procuring machines but with this decision all most all our problems will get resolved," he added. With this decision, unit holders say that the government has finally legalized the bat industry in Kashmir. |
