Cong leaders want pleasant weather to discuss cause of defeat in Lok Sabha elections | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 2: Congress high command has once again treated its Jammu based leaders as second class citizens because they were asked to attend review meeting at Srinagar held today. Instead of holding the meeting at Jammu, where party has strong base, Congress convened meeting at Srinagar because many senior leaders could not bear hostile weather of Jammu. Credible sources said that some Jammu based leaders had appealed the high command to convene two separate meetings-one at Jammu and another at Srinagar to review performance in the Parliamentary elections but party leadership was adamant to hold the meeting at Srinagar only. "Agenda of the meeting was to identify reasons for party's defeat in the Parliamentary elections but priority of the top leadership appeared to be enjoyed pleasant weather of Kashmir Valley so meeting was fixed at Srinagar", credible sources said and disclosed that instead of seriously discussing reasons for defeat of the party, leaders were interested in conducting cosmetic exercise. In the Parliamentary elections, Congress had suffered worst ever defeat because party has not only failed to open its account but victory margin of BJP candidates on two seats of Jammu and lone seat of Ladakh has increased manifold. Sunday's meeting was convened to identify reasons for defeat but it appeared that those looking affairs of the party in J&K are more concerned about doing a formality instead of doing a serious exercise to identify reasons. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has presided over the meeting. All senior leaders and district presidents invited in the meeting. |
