JMC commissioner visits landfill site

Jammu, June 13: JMC commissioner Pankaj Magotra today visited the land fill site at Kot bhalwal . He was accompanied by Pardeep Singh Manhas (KAS), Joint Commissioner, JMC, Prem Singh, Asstt. Commissioner (R), JMC, Sr. Jaspal Singh, Joint Commissioner (W), Health Officer, Executive Engineer (C), Municipal Veterinary Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Naib Tehsildar (R) and Informatics Officer, JMC visited
During the tour, the Commissioner issued on the spot instructions to the concerned Officers for carrying out the land fill operations at the this site on scientific lines so that minimum inconvenience is caused to the people living in the surrounding areas. He advised the officers managing the site to make the site green along the boundaries by undertaking an extensive plantation drive at the site during the ensuing monsoon. Directions were also given to erect temporary structure for better waste recovery for recycling to address environmental concern.
Further Commissioner, JMC also visited Municipal Animal Care Centre,(MACC) Roop Nagar to check the Animal Birth Control/Anti Rabies Vaccination programme (ABC/ARV) which has been recently started by JMC to control the population of stray dogs in JMC limits. Commissioner was informed that JMC has taken effective steps for lifting of stray dogs ward wise and their sterilization at MACC, Roop Nagar. The Municipal Veterinary Officer informed that special care is taken to ensure that the dogs after sterilization are relocated in the same area were from they were picked. The sterilized and immunized stray dogs are easily identifiable from the v-notch cut made on their right ear and also from the retro-reflecting collar belt in the neck which shines during the night .The above is aimed to reduce the accidents involving stray dogs on the roads.
The Commissioner instructed the MVO and veterinary staff in the hospital to observe all the the precautionary and regulatory protocols prescribed by the Animal Welfare Board while dealing with animals at the Centre. He assured the staff to provide requisite funds to modernize the operation theatre and equip the Centre with state of the art medical equipments with a view to make JMC's Animal Care Centre one of the best Animal Birth Control Centre of India.
During the visit at MACC, Roop Nagar Smt. Devinder Kaur Madaan, Chairperson 'SAVE' NGO was also present who also gave her valuable suggestion for improving the functioning of MACC, Roop Nagar.
