Erratic water supply, sanitation major issues of Vivekanada Colony Gangyal: Residents tell Munish
6/22/2019 11:52:38 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 22: The residents of Vivekanada Colony of Sector 7, 4 of Gangyal have been severely facing hardship mainly due to erratic water supply and blocked drainage system which remain unattended leaving the people into great distress.
As temperature has been rising high with each passing day, the scarcity of the water has made their life difficult as the water supply remained off most of the day and at some place supply doesn't reach. During his mass contact programme, Munish Gupta met residents of Gangyal and heard their problem.
"In our area the PHE supply pipelines are very old and small which were never replaced with the increasing population in the area resulting the water fail to reach at their destination and we have to purchase water through tanker supply to meet our daily needs," said Surinder Kumari resident of Sec-7 of Vivekanand Colony.
There are some locations in the colony where roads are in dilapidated conditions and never repaired or blacktopped for the last 20 years. "Most of the area has been macadamised and lanes have tiled but there is a stretch of about 20 meters which has been left. Moreover the drains have no proper slope and no cleaning management from municipality due to which drains remain clogged and water remain stagnant, said Moti Lal, Mohinder and Anita resident of Sec 4.
Satya Devi and Rejeev Sharma have also the same problem of PHE water supply. They alleged that the areas where supply comes first the people use eclectic motors to take water which stop its supply to the tail end residents leaving them without water.
"The scarcity of water supply has deepened since February we complained to the department and accordingly the pile line was dug so that pipe be replaced with big one but shockingly the concerned JE didn't change against used the old one pipe with small diameter," said that Raj Dulari Koul and Shambhu Nath, Surjeet Kumar of sector 4.
Raising serious concern over the sanitation, Darshan Lal said that drains remains unclean, garbage dump remain unattended as nobody from the authority concern come to lift garbage dump causing foul smell. "At some place lanes have not be constructed properly and absence of drains have posed serious problem. The drainage system is not in working condition due to which dirty water of houses remained stagnant and have become breeding ground for mosquitoes," said Poonam and Ashok Kumar.
Darshana, a poor woman, who has been living in single small room told Early Times that back side wall of her house has collapsed due to rains which could not be repaired as her financial condition is so weak she is unable to conduct any construction on her own and she appealed to the government to redress her problem.
