BARAMULLA (Uri), June 22: One foreign militant has been killed today in an encounter with security forces that erupted in Boniyar sector of this north Kashmir district.
A top police official told early times that, today early morning we had got inputs about the presence of some militants in Bujthalan forest area in Boniyar sector of Baramulla district.
A joint team of Army's 6 JAKLI, SOG and police took part in the operation; the whole area was cordoned off after which the security forces launched search operations in the area, the police official said. The official said that, as the searches were going on, the militants fired upon the security forces and the fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing gun battle one militant was killed and the body has retrieved from the site of encounter, adding he has been identified as foreigner from Pakistan and is believed to be from proscribed terror outfit Jash-e- Mohammad (JeM).
Soon after the encounter, incriminating material including some arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site and the case has been accordingly registered in the nearest police station and initiated investigations into the matter, said official. However sources said that, the killed militant was wanted in several militancy related cases and the security forces believe that it is a huge success for them. The Pakistani militants was active since last one year and was rooming in the border area from past few days, as most probably he had come to meet his associates, said sources.
Here police spokesperson in a statement said that, the operation is over and there has been no collateral damage during the encounter.
Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, said police statement.
