Four Militants Killed in Encounter With Security Forces in Shopian | | | Srinagar, June 23: At least four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu & Kashmir. The gunbattle erupted in the early hours of Sunday in Daram Dora Keegan area of Shopian district. A huge cache of arms and ammunition have been seized by the forces in the combing operation following the encounter.
The identity of the neutralised militants is yet to be released. It could not be confirmed whether they were affiliated to the Hizbul Mujahideen -- to which most of the local insurgents are affiliated to -- or were sent from across the border by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed or Lashkar-e-Taiba.
"Four terrorists have been killed in Daramdora village of Shopian district. Weapons and other incriminating material have been recovered from their possession," Defence Ministry spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.
According to the J&K Police, the gunfight broke out after a joint team of security forces started a cordon and search operation in Daramdora village.
"The operation was focused on the orchard area. As the security forces tightened the cordon around the militants, they opened fire that triggered the encounter," police said
