KVK-Leh organizes Kissan Gosthi | | | Early Times Report
Leh, June 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Leh under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organized a Kissan Gosthi at village Chemday in Karu block of Leh district. The Gosthi was organized under Biotech kissan Hub programme of the SKUSAT-Kashmir. Many women farmers of the village attended the programme. Dr. D. Namgayal, Programme Coordinator KVK-Leh informed the participants about the importance of such Kissan Gosthi's towards the welfare of farming community. He also briefed them about the government's ambitious programme of doubling farm income by 2022. In this regard, Dr. Namgayal also stressed upon them to adopt the scientific interventions being provided to them by KVK-Leh for augmenting their income. Dr. Kunzang Lamo Subject Matter Specialist (Vegetable Science) answered to the various queries of the female farmers regarding protected vegetable cultivation in low tunnels and trenches. She also discussed with them the harmful effects of the chemicals used in growing different crops. Dr. Parveen Kumar Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension) told them that such Gosthi's are a medium for exchange of relevant information between the scientific and farming community. He briefed them about the various government schemes that can be availed by the farming community and also elaborated on the community mobilization through collective efforts like the formation of self help groups, commodity interest groups and farmer interest groups. |
