Strategies for sustainable use, marketing necessary: Prof Dhar

Jammu, Aug 29: Two day National Conference on the theme 'Moving Towards Sustainable Marketing Practices: Challenges and opportunities" organised by P.G. Department of Commerce (SAP: DRS-III), University of Jammu commenced today with the inaugural ceremony at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium.While addressing the participants, Prof. Manoj Dhar,Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, the Chief Guest on the occasion shared that sustainability has assumed considerable importance in view of population growth, depletion of Bioresources and other challenges. Therefore, we need to develop strategies not only for sustainability marketing but also for conserving our biodiversity by way of its sustainable utilization. He remarked that Biodiversity loss has been much more in last 100 years in comparison to last 3000 years. Prof. Dhar also highlighted the initiatives taken by the University of Jammu for the sustainability.
In her Keynote address Dr. Ambika Zutshi, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia highlighted a 10 point action plan given by Talloires Declaration that the universities should follow to increase the awareness of environmentally sustainable development vis a vis creating culture, fostering environmental literacy, practicing environmental ecology, involving stakeholders, collaborating interdisciplinary approaches, enhancing capacity of the schools, maintaining the movement and broadening the services.
Prof. Yogesh Upadhaya, Jiwaji University Gwalior shared his valuable insights relating to sustainable marketing by citing many examples and suggested how sustainable development can be attained. Prof. Tejinder Sharma, Kurukshetra University in a comprehensive manner discussed the environmental, economic and social sustainability and opined that immediate steps should be taken to save the Earth Planet by revisiting the values of our society and emphasized that it is the only solution to sustainability.
Among those Prof. Gurucharan Singh Director, School of Management, Punjabi University, Patiala; Prof. Neetu Andotra, Dean Business Studies; Prof Sandeep Tandon; Dr. Tarsem Lal, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Bodh Raj Sharma, and Mr. Sandeep Patyal were also present on the occasion.
