Jammu, Aug 29: Traffic Police today conducted anti-encroachment drive in Sarwal area to decongest traffic between Rehari-Chungi to Jaggi Darwar in Paloura. The drive was conducted on directions issued by the Court to decongest the road. "The shopkeepers in the area have encroached both-sides of the said road by placing boards and other material on pavement and the road. It was causing frequent traffic jam in the area", said SSP Traffic Jammu, Joiginder Singh, adding that to reduce heavy rush of traffic on existing Ambphala-Janupur-Bantalab, traffic will diverted on Rehari Chungi- Jaggi Darbar Paloura (now JamKash Vehicleades). He said that the drive was carried out by the Traffic Police while complying with Court's orders. "With the removal of illegal encroachments, the road, will automatically be widened", said SPP Traffic said, while talking to media persons. However, the local residents, especially women alleged that no prior notice was served upon them by the authorities. "They came and suddenly started removing 'encroachment', damaging water supply pipes laid in the area", said angry women, while media persons on the spot. "We respect the law, but they should atleast inform us in advance before carrying out the drive", they added. |
