Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 16: Movement for Peace, Equality and Justice (MPEJ) has expressed concern over the announcement of elections of Block Development Council (BDC). They expressed great dismay and wonder as to how BDC elections are being contemplated to be held in a hush-hush manner, as according to Government figures, as many as 50% blocks in the state do not have regular BDOs and as many as 1057 Panchayats do not have full quorum of Panches- i.e having just one Panch or Sarpanch and under these circumstances, pushing for BDC elections vividly tantamount to either complete the formality of creating a history by ensuring 2nd tier elections under Panchayati Raj Act 1989 for the first time or to please the bosses in doing so. "But in fact, on ground, people will feel deceived and cheated in absence of proper infrastructure and in reality it will be a biggest embracing to our democracy in an environ of biggest democracy in the world", they said. |
