Transfers of SHOs on cards in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Amid unprecedented situation in Kashmir since abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, the Administration is contemplating transfers in police department but only for the Thana level officials. Officials sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police are contemplating the proposal for transfer of Station House officers (SHO)s of some of police in the valley. Sources said that the team of top ranking officials were monitoring the performance of SHOs in not only maintaining the law and order but also helping administration in restoration of peace in the valley. Sources said around one dozen SHOs posted in Srinagar and 20 posted elsewhere in Kashmir were likely to be reshuffled as per the "needs of the time". "We have found that some SHOs can do good for comparatively peaceful areas whereas some are assets to work in volatile areas, so the new postings will be made as per that," the officials sources told Early times. Sources said some of the top ranking officials including those the rank of Inspector General of Police and ADGP are working on the reshuffle plan. Sources said that the reshuffle of SHOs is such a sensitive issue that the detail of the development would be shared with the Union Home Ministry and the National Security Advisor as well. Sources said that after the 2016 agitation the police department has found that SHOs played a key role in tackling the situation. In 2016, it was found that the then dispensation, under alleged political influence, had posted officers from armed police as SHOs at around two dozen police stations, though it was not supposed to be their duty and thus had led to worsening of the situation then. It was only after Munir Khan had taken charge IGP Kashmir then that the officers from armed police were sent back to their parent department as Khan had reportedly tuned down all "police influences" the situation has subsequently improved after Khan took over. Since then New Delhi had been keen to keep track of the posting of the SHOs. Despite the repeated the attempts the concerns could not be contacted. |
