Shraada depends on Shraddha | | Omkar Dattatray | 9/27/2019 9:57:34 PM |
| The importance of shraada in vadic dharma is very great and can not be denied. Hindus perform shradda in honour of their dead ancestors and for pleasing them. Shradda is performed annually to satiate ones dead anscestors. It is paying homage to dead ones. Shradda depends upon shraddha. The moot question is does the offerings reach the departed relatives. If you have total faith and belief in vadic dharma, then it reachs them. Shradda is performed annually on the death anniversary of the dead ancestors and in the month of Ashwin of the Hindi calander which is called Piter pakash meaning the fortnight of the dead ancestors. In the yester years homage to the ancestors called shraada used to be performed both on the death anniversary and in the first fortnight of the Ashwin month. But in today's material world and rush for money shraada is seldom performed. Paucity of time is another reason for not performing this religious obligation. Now the shortcut of shraada is performed which is known as sankalp which takes little time and is cost effective. According to vadic dharma a person has three obligations which are called dev rin , piter rin and rishi rin. It follows that in Hindu dharma one has three obligations towards gods, towards seers, and towards ones dead ancestors. According to Sanatan Dhrama one is indebted towards these three and one has to repay this debt by paying offerings to these three. Thus offerings in the form of rice, furit, money, salt, radish etc is offered to dead ones. These are offered to some Bhramman or some needy person. It is believed that these offerings will give peace to the departed souls. But all this depends upon the faith, belief which is termed shradda in Hindu mythology. These three debts of a person are also represented in three treads of the sacred thread called yegnopavit weared by Bhramins round the neck. In the offerings to departed souls on annual death annversery and in the first fortnight of Ashwin Kashmiri Pandits make offerings and radish with green leaves are specially offered to the ancestors. In any way, shraadha requires total faith called shraddha. Every living being meaning jiva is born with his karma, but he is not in isolation. Being the part of the whole jiva lives with other members of the society. As the body dies but soul remains and is ever lasting and the jiva continues its journey if the last rites are not performed properly. Naturally one wish that loved departed ones get peace in the next world. Thus any action performed with this end in view is bound to produce result. According to karma any action performed produces result and this is scientific as well. Thus any action performed with the intention of benefitting the departed ones will definitely reach them. The whole universe is one and the power of thought is very great and no thought goes in vain without producing the result. Thus any karma done with the intention of reaching the departed ones bears fruit. A person is permitted to perform his own shraadh and then there is no need to perform any shraadh by his dear ones. But in any case shraadh depends upon shraddha. |
