New Delhi, Sept 29: The first commercial run of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation's (IRCTC) superfast special train Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express will be on October 5. The booking of tickets for this is now open on the IRCTC website, the Railways said on Sunday.
It may be noted that the Home Minister Amit Shah will flag off the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express on October 3, 2019, from Delhi on its inaugural run.
This high-speed train is expected to bring down the travel time between Delhi and Katra, the last station on the way to Vaishno Devi temple, to eight hours from the existing 12 hours. The first Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Delhi-Varanasi route.
The Ministry of Railways in its tweet said, "Ticket booking for 22439/ 22440 New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vandebharat Express is open now. Tickets can be booked for any journey commencing from 5th October onwards. Train will stop at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana & Jammu Tawi."
Following the manifold success of Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways is planning to roll out Train 19, the sleeper-class model of Train 18. With the launch of Vande Bharat Express on the Delhi-Varanasi route, the train has reduced the travel time 8 hours.
The trial run of Vande Bharat on Delhi to Katra was successfully conducted in July 2019. During that time, railway officials, told that Vande Bharat Express, also known as 'Train 18', started its journey from New Delhi at 6 AM and was scheduled to reached Katra at 2 PM on the same day. On its way to Katra, the train arrived on platform number 6 of the Ambala Cantonment railway station. it is four minutes earlier than its scheduled time of 8:06 AM .
This New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express will have the facility of sleeper class coaches. These were not present in the first Vande Bharat Express train which is running on New Delhi-Lucknow route. The second Vande Bharat Express running on New Delhi-Katra (Vaishno Devi) route likely to have more comfortable seats, pantry space and is expected to consume less energy.
