Terrorists may be misusing tippers to ferry weapons in Kashmir
9/29/2019 10:34:14 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 29: In a shocking development that has put the security forces on tenterhooks in restive Kashmir, the terrorists may be using tippers used to ferry construction material to transport arms and ammunition from one part of the valley to another. Sources said the security analysts have told the administration that in the wake of recent infiltration and revival of terrorism in some pockets that were largely "militant-free", there was every possibility that to give a slip to the security forces, the militants may be transporting arms and ammunition in construction material laden vehicles.
While the concerned are looking into the matter, the administration is planning to take initiatives to discourage movement of load tippers in the late night hours.
Ironically though the people of Kashmir claim to be on strike since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, the construction activities, mostly illegal are going on a "full speed", something which essentially depends on the flow of construction material.
Even though police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force have raised nakas along most of the routes, the vehicles which are largely not frisked properly are heavy vehicles, especially tippers that mostly move around loaded in the night hours.
"Taking advantage of this, there is every possibility that tippers are being misused. Moreover everyone knows that the loaded tippers cannot be frisked because that would mean asking them to unload the material on the roads," said a retired police official on the condition of anonymity.
The former official, who has spend most of his service career fighting militancy, said that militants had done such acts in the past as well and thus could do it again.
When contacted a senior official said the administration was already contemplating to find out a way to prevent movement of tippers in the late night hours for reasons more than one.
"Some orders have already been issued this regard so that no construction material is ferried in the late night hours," said the official on the condition of anonymity.
