Revival of political activities unlikely to help Kashmir-centric leaders
Sadar-e-Riyasat, Wazir-e-Azam become history

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 7: Political activities in Jammu & Kashmir seem to have been revived. To begin with, a delegation of National Conference (NC) leaders from Jammu visited Srinagar on Sunday and met the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah separately.
According to the media reports, the government is also mulling to release the politicians who have been detained since 5 August. They are to be released in a phased manner to prevent any law and order issue.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "When these leaders were jailed they were shouting at the top of their voice that they won't allow centre to reorganize J&K. One will have to wait for reaction of these leaders after they are released."
He said, "Kashmir-centric leaders and parties stand decimated at this point of time as they have been not left with any slogans. When the campaign for 2009 parliamentary elections was at its peak in Jammu & Kashmir NC vice president Omar Abdullah had promised people that once NC returns to power it will get the positions of Sadar-e-Riyasat and Wazir-e-Azam back. Now what will he tell people?"
An observer said that J&K is no more a state and it would start functioning as full-fledged Union Territory after 31st October. "The scenario in J&K is all set to change after this month. Powers of the politicians have been curtailed. Chief Ministers and Ministers in a Union Territory have a limited authority as the Lieutenant Governor (centre's representative in a UT) holds the key," he added.
He said that, "Kashmir-centric rulers during the past seven decades acted like monarchs. They used to tell people sitting in the national capital that they are the only ones who can manage J&K and if they are sidelined Kashmir will burn. But they have been shown their worth as centre has been handling J&K directly for more than a year now. And from 31st October J&K will be governed directly by the centre till J&K's statehood is restored and it could take years."
Many people in Jammu & Kashmir believe that careers of politicians like Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are over. "They will have to look for some other career as people won't accept them. Leaders like Omar and Mehbooba have misled the people of J&K during all these years by claiming that Kashmir is an issue and accession of J&K with the Union is temporary. It is unfortunate that Kashmir-centric leaders thrived by indulging in politics of deceit and falsehood," the observer added.
