KVK Reasi organizes field day on maize crop

JAMMU, Oct 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) organized field day on maize crop at village Sirah situated near SMVD University in Reasi district of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a large number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension (DE) and Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J Dr KS Risam. The programme was initiated by Dr Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the farmers. He started the programme with the brief objectives of Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) especially on maize crop and elaborated the scientific technologies by which farmers can increase the maize production. He demonstrated the hybrid varieties of maize crop laid at farmers' fields by the KVK, Reasi. Farmers were motivated after observing the results of hybrid maize fields and were ready to adopt the technologies recommended by the KVK. He suggested the farmers for the use of maize hybrids and gave a detail view of certain tactics which are needed for hybrid maize production. He further added that Front Line Demonstrations laid by the KVK scientists signify the technologies by which farmers can get maximum yield from per unit area per unit time. He suggested the farmers that every year they should purchase new certified seed of maize hybrids and informed them to use only the recommended varieties for the district. He emphasized on line sowing in maize crop by which weeding/hoeing in maize crop becomes easier which further helps to increase the maize production. He suggested the proper spacing between plant- to- plant and line- to- line. He motivated the farmers for the commercial farming. He also emphasized on the balance dose of fertilizers in maize crop and suggested them that they should apply urea in the split doses. He stressed on seed treatment in maize crop.
