Early Times Report JAMMU, OCT 11: On the directions of Director School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, World Mental Health Day with theme 'Suicide Prevention' was observed in various government schools of Jammu Division. According to WHO, more than 800,000 people die by committing suicide every year, making it the principal cause of death among people fifteen to twenty-nine years old. As per reports received from nodal officers counseling cells at DIETS, interactive group guidance sessions on the theme were organized in approximately 400 schools ( High and higher secondary ) sensitizing about 20,000 students covering all the 10 districts of Jammu Division by the faculty members working in counselling cells constituted at High and Higher Secondary Schools. Lectures covered topics like causes of suicide, symptoms of suicide, suicidal ideation, tele-counselling helpline, symptoms of depression, and mental health issues of students. Some schools also organized skits, collage making on the theme. The programmes in schools were co-ordinated by the team counselling cell DSEJ. In the programme held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar Jammu, Director SARA (NGO) S.Raminder Jeet Singh and Romesh Kumar Head counselling Cell DSEJ were present. Recently, to ensure emotional well-Being of school going children, Counselling Cell Directorate of School Education Jammu, in collaboration with Child Development Centre Gandhi Nagar Jammu and PG Department of Psychology University of Jammu conducted an intensive one day training cum orientation programme on Emotional well -Being of children for school teachers and principals. Pertinently, Directorate of School education Jammu is taking up various initiatives like constituting counselling cells, tele-counselling helpline, capacity building of staff, designating nodal officers for guidance and counselling for ensuring psychological health and emotional well being of children. |
