BOSE issues date-sheet for exams in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 11: The Board of School Education (BOSE) has issued date sheet for class 10 and 12 examinations in the last week of this month. The BOSE has issued date-sheet on Thursday night which appeared in local newspapers on Friday. The class 10th examinations will commence from October 29 and class 12th from October 30 in the valley. Students of private and government schools filed their examination forms through their respective schools though they stayed away from classes. Meanwhile, advisor to Governor Farooq Ahmad Khan has said that parents will have to pay full tuition fees of their children to their respective schools even during the months when all educational institutions were closed in the valley. However, he said, schools cannot charge bus fees from students for the period when buses were not plying. The government ordered closure of all educational institutions on August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35A, besides divided the state into two Union Territories. However, educational institutions reopened in winter capital, Jammu and Ladakh after about two weeks in a phased manner but remained closed in the valley. After remaining closed for more than a month, government ordered reopening of primary and middle schools first followed by High and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) and on October 9 colleges in the valley, where life remained crippled due to spontaneous strike from August 5. However, students continued to stay away and did not attend their classes in private and government institutions as parents were not ready to send their children to schools due to uneasy situation in the valley, including Srinagar. Parents asked how is it possible for them to take risk and send their children to schools when there is no public transport, schools buses are not plying, shops and business establishments are closed and all communication network, including mobile phones and internet service, remained suspended since August 5. Colleges also witnessed similar situation as students did not attended their classes. Mr Khan announced that government had reopened schools and colleges and it was for the students to attend their classes. He ruled out any mass promotion and relaxation in syllabus and said such a measure will not be helpful for students who have to complete in different professional examinations. About the fees being charged by the schools for a period when all educational institutions were closed -August and September-, Mr Khan parents will have to pay fees to enable private schools to pay salaries of their teaching and other staff. However, he said, schools cannot claim transport charges since buses of these institutions were not plying. "If any private institute charge bus fees, action will be taken against him," he warned. All private and government engineering and poly-technical colleges also remained closed. The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar also remained closed and students of different states have left for their homes under security on August 6. |
