Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 12: A meeting of the prominent and intellectuals of the society held with the family members of Karan Sharma on his 10th death anniversary who was brutally killed through drowning by the four culprits on 28 Sep 2010 at Baba Padh, Udhampur.
According to press release, narrating the incident Pt Chaman Lal Sharma, Uncle of Karan said on that ill-fated day of the incident Karan Sharma was taken by his four friends to the river on the pretext to enjoy a picnic as he was doing his BBA course at Government Degree College, Udhampur.
He died due to brutal and gruesome drowning by culprits He was provoked by those boys. He was then forced to step inside the river along with Rajan and Nitin who were on his both the sides holding his hands.
They left him alone in the middle of deep water of the river stream and crossed the river to the other bank themselves.
Four boys had made a cruel joke with Karan. Who was then in a sheer helpless situation as he did not know the art of swimming. In sheer struggle to save himself from water wave in deep water he cried for help. But nobody helped him as a result of which Karan finally drowned. Drowning was not accidental but it was caused due to provocation and negligence on the part of four boys which can be termed as a planned conspiracy in this case. Pradip Singh and Vicky Singh ran away after the crime but Rajan Sharma and Nitin Kumar spotted by BSF and handed over to Police in underwears only. The dead body located by family members on forth day and was fished out with the help of a private diver who was called from Ramban by the Police.
Utter grievances of the deceased family are about the total biased and unprofessional approach of the local Police involved in investigating the case handled in such a lenient and biased manner that Police did not even bother to extract the true facts and clues that might have led to solve the drowning incident of Karan. Even no FIR registered by the concerned police. It is evident and seems that those boys had succeeded in influencing the Police to act in a biased manner in their favour. It is a fact that Honourable ex MLA Udhampur influenced the then SHO and hampered the investigation. Added that family lost Karan but it hurts already bleeding soul of his mother that favour under some influence was granted to the culprits and no any kind of investigation conducted in this case. He also informed that no any kind of information about the progress of the case has been given to the deceased family for a period over nine years neither the Investigating Officer appointed for the purpose ever bothered to visit the house of deceased to know the condition / problems of the family who has lost his husband and now his grown up son. Police personnel never heartedly bothered to collect the clues and brought out the culprits for punishment under the law of the Judiciary.
Smt Usha Sharma mother of Karan Sharma requested Satya Pal Malik, Governor to enquire the matter and order the Investigation by constituting a Special Investigating Team (SIT) and demanded punishment to the culprits over the untimely and unfortunate death of Karan, sympathetically on humanitarian grounds and make the local Police accountable for favouring the boys who were prime culprits and witnesses of the drowning incident. Justice may kindly be provided to family and the departed soul by reinvestigating the case in a scientific and professional manner without succumbing under any external/ political influence on the Police.
Taking serious note of the murder of Karan Sharma relatives demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and dismissal of corrupt and erring officials in the Police Department not caring for the case.
Prominent among others were Mohini Devi, Neelam Sharma, Sushma Sharma, Chetna Sharma, Anju Sharma, Renu Sharma, Om Parkash, Inderjeet, Parveen Soodan, Rakesh, Nitish, Namarta, Sadhvi Sharma, Parshuramakant. Akshukrishnakant Soodan and Atharv.
