Div Com Jammu reviews Paddy procurement arrangements

JAMMU, Oct 12: Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma today reviewed the arrangements for opening up of seasonal Paddy Procurement Centres (Mandis) by Food Corporation of India (FCI) here at a meeting with concerned officers.
The meeting was attended by, Additional General Manager, FCI, Amit Kesar, Deputy Director, FCS&CA, Kulraj Singh senior functionaries of Agriculture and other concerned departments while Deputy Commissioner Kathua and Samba along with other concerned attended the meeting through video conferencing.
The Div Com asked the FCI authorities to immediately establish and make the Paddy Procurement Centres (Mandis) operational at different locations in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts so as to ensure that the farmers get the Minimum Support Price announced by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (GOI).
The meeting was informed that the Minimum Support Price for paddy and coarse grains kharif 2019-20, as fixed by the government are 1815/- per quintal for common Paddy, 1835/- per quintal for A Grade Paddy besides, 2570/- per quintal for Jowar, 2000/- per quintal for Bajra, 1760/- per quintal for maize which is higher than last year Minimum Support Price.
The concerned officers informed about the proposed locations for procurement centres. It was informed that Paddy Procurement Centres (Mandis) would be opened at 9 locations in Jammu including Sohanjana, Ghajansoo, Chanu Chak, Marh, Bhadrore, Pargwal, Gurha Manasa, Jourian Arnia/ Bishnah besides 1 at Kesso Manhasa in Samba and 6 in Kathua District including Sanjhi Morh, Chann Aroian, Palli Morh, Bajwal, Nagri Parole, Dungara/ Mandli the mandis would be open by the FCI.
The Divisional Commissioner called upon the participating agencies to put in place foolproof system well in time through their coordinated efforts to provide maximum benefits to the farmers. He also gave instructions to the Deputy Commissioners to further instruct BDOs and PRIs for publicize it and he also instructed them to ensure that the farmers are not forced to sell their produce (paddy) in distress below the MSP.
