Uncertainty in Jammu: Locals not joining BJP's celebrations on UT status | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 2: Notwithstanding celebrations being organised by the party at different places to celebrate formal declaration of J&K into Union Territory (UT), BJP leaders are facing anger of the people of Jammu for their failure to protect land and job rights of locals. After August 5, BJP leaders have promised that land and jobs rights of the people of Jammu region will be protected when J&K will be formally declared as UT but nothing in this regard has been mentioned in the circular issued by the Union Government. Reports suggested that BJP leaders have been facing wrath of the people for not fulfilling promises made by them from time to time especially after abrogation of Article 370 on August 6 in the Lok Sabha. Although BJP leadership had organized various functions at different places of Jammu to celebrate granting of UT status but people of Jammu have given cold shoulder response to the party because state BJP leaders have failed to protect peoples' interest. Credible sources in the BJP said that instead of properly taking up Jammu's issue with Central leadership, local party leadership was busy only in Pakistan and Congress bashing. During the last three months, J&K BJP leadership was busy in cheap publicity but in reality the local leaders have done nothing concrete. Credible sources said that within two-days BJP leadership has realized that there was no celebration mood among people of Jammu because in official circular there is no provision of projecting job and land rights of the locals. Instead of joining BJP with celebrations if UT status, people of Jammu are rather charging local BJP leaders with bartering Jammu's interests. Meanwhile youth wing of BJP today organized bike rally to mark celebrations of UT but there was no involvement of locals in the rally. Eye witnessing said that youth wing workers were shouting slogans but there was no response from the passers-by. People were rather taunting BJP leaders for selling Jammu's interests. |
