Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal11/4/2019 10:26:06 PM
According to George Bernard Shaw, 'democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few' yet selection and election decisions both play an important part in determining who will ultimately become a politician. In fact, recruiting individuals to legislative office is seen as a core function of political systems, with the quality of candidates selected impacting ultimately on the quality of government. Political elections ought to bring out the good in people - aren't they a chance to talk about plans and hopes for the future? But lately they have come to resemble brawls on a playground.
Truth is hard, propaganda is cheap. Lies are historically and inexorably tied to politicians, something that has not changed in recent times. Lies are made to further an agenda, to limp the voters from analyzing the qualities of the politicians. Politicians promote these agendas with the selective presentation of certain biased facts, too often; however, they present these alternative facts as truth. Why do the voters always seem to ignore anything with a factual basis? Psychology may have the answer. One symptom of such leaders is having fantasies of unlimited brilliance, or other supreme qualities. These fantasies tend to shift their perception of reality, giving them a false sense of success (achieved by fanciful methods) and accomplishment. He may not be able to see facts as facts (Reality seen in present era). Political leaders across the nation have practically no difference in their psychology. Every politician overstates facts, or declares falsehoods as a means to capture power. The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda; it is to exhaust your critical thinking. The people are embattled in an election torture by these politicians that is not only dividing the society but stressing also. The politicians use psychological constructs to carve our different niche of personality, attitudes, beliefs and values. We are living in a fanciful world created by theses politicians where their lies sound like facts to those who've been conditioned to misrecognize the truth and this visionless class of voters is responsible for bringing sufferings for the common man by electing these wicked leaders. Philosophically we can say that if anyone rises to power, it's not only because he could, but also because the stars were aligned in his favor. Many with apparent means to take it failed simply because they weren't destined for the honor. Otherwise how the tainted and those facing murder, rape, kidnapping and heinous crime, the law breakers, would have become ministers, the law makers, in Modi Government, who is projected as apostle of divinity. Violators cannot live with the truth. They have derived their genes from the 'Aunglimal', a well known character in Indian epic. The object of the oratory alone is not truth, but persuasion - Thomas Babington Macaulay. Oratory is a masterful art. Our vision has been so shackled that we do not hesitate to jump into the deep pool, knowingly that we do not know swimming and have to drown into the pool. It is always a much easier task to educate uneducated people than to re-educate the mis-educated. The agenda of the Government for common people is to mis-educate them for vote bank consolidation. We are passing through an era that might have been faced by Abraham Lincoln to state that "Elections belong to the people. It's their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters." We were told that winning or losing of the election is less important than strengthening the country but we are witnessing a reversal of it and winning the election and forming government by hook or crook or horse trading for power sake is the sole agenda of present dispensation in power that may be at the point of dividing the society and weakening the country or making hollow and false promises and traumatizing the public to have day dreams. We have been pushed to a situation as to live in a country, where we eat content, drink content and breathe content, without giving a single thought to its composition and what kind of impact it has upon our lives. It is unfortunate that it is possible to 'know' something that is not true. Such is the conditioning of common man by present dispensation. It is branded as a corporate controlled government and corporate government is the enemy of the common people. Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murderer and rapists respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. Those in charge of our society - politicians, corporate executives, and owners of press and television have dominated our ideas that are why; they are secure in their power. We recognize that a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over last few years and as a fool we are feeling proud of our self. Propaganda is as powerful as heroin; that surreptitiously dissolves all capacity of public to think. The greatest propaganda coup of the present dispensation hovers around terrorizing the common man and to create space to exploit them as seen recently in Jammu and Kashmir. The tyranny of the majority government pursues exclusively its own interests at the expense of public. This has resulted in oppression of freedom granted by the Constitution. Democracy is now perceived as the dictatorship of the majority. Democracy is about consensus and public reasoning. To me consensus, discussion , dissent are the prime issues on which a democracy is to be run other than polling and this aspect badly missing in BJP led present government. Checks and Balances are put in place in all democracies to reduce the arbitrariness of the government but there is no check available in present government that has set free the horse in the polo ground. The words of Bangambiki Habyarimana, writer of the book, Pearls of Eternity, suits well to the factual situation country men are facing "The universe runs on the principle that one who can exert the most evil on other creatures runs the show."
