JK's 4.5 lac employees have to wait to see their monthly salaries get swollen | Authorities yet to issue orders about enhancement of salaries in new UT | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 25: The government employees of the newly created union territory of Jammu and Kashmir have to wait to see there monthly salaries getting surged as was promised by the government in the recent past. More than 4.5 lac government employees of various departments were eagerly waiting to see their wages getting swollen by at least rupees three to seven thousand every month and November was the time when they were expected the hike to happen. However, the government, as per the sources seems to be in no mood to issue any orders pertaining to the salary hike as per the 7th pay commission recommendations in a union territory. There has been no orders and no discussions over how much hike will a government worker get in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, says an official, adding that all such issues seem to have been kept for the discussion in future. "There were speculations rife that medical allowance will be enhanced to rupees 1000 a month and tuition fee of children also will be reimbursed by the government. However, there is no order and the possibility of any development in this regard only looks bleak for now," said the official. On October 31 this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was happy all the government employees of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh would get the 7th Pay Commission benefits. He was speaking on the occasion of Sardar Patel's birth anniversary, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), on Oct 31. "I am happy that from today all the govt employees of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh will be getting the benefits under the 7th Pay Commission as granted to the employees of other Union Territories," said Modi in Kevadia, Gujarat. The central government on October 22 had said all government employees of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh would get financial facilities as per the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations from October 31. The decision will help over 4.5 lakh government employees of these UTs. The government will bear around Rs 4,800 crore worth of cost due to the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in the UTs. However, at present as a month is about to pass since the creation of a unit territory and the salary bills of about 4.5 lac government employees are being routinely submitted in the government treasuries, there is no say when the hike will be witnessed or whether it needs a separate budget allocation or the funds in the non- plan will be adjusted to accord the benefits to the government employees. Central government on November 1 formally revoked the state of Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional autonomy and split it into two federal territories in an attempt to integrate it fully into the country. At midnight on October 31, the state was formally taken under direct control and split into the territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, bringing an end to decades of semi-autonomous rule. |
