How did Geelani's letter reach Pakistan? Govt to launch probe | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 25: Even as senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani has reportedly sent a letter to the Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan "thanking" him for supporting the so called "Kashmir cause", the government is likely to start a high level probe to know the veracity of the correspondence. Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the intelligence agencies of the central government are trying to ascertain if Geelani had really written a letter to the enemy country and how come the correspondence reached the recipient. The sources said the formal probe into the case would be started in the coming days. "He(Geelani) is under house arrest. So the first and the foremost question is as to how come he wrote a letter that went out of his home and who took it out?" asked a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said another big question was that as to how come the letter has reached the enemy country. "Was the letter sent through some militant via the LOC or did it take some secret international route of some courier service to reach the enemy land? There are many questions that need answers on this issue," the official said. The Geelani's letter had reportedly prompted the Pakistani government led by Imran Khan to call an "emergency meeting on Kashmir to decide about the future course of action." The letter came to public domain after a Turkey based news agency reported about the incident on November 12. Since the abrogation of the Article 370 on August 5, it has been for the first time that the correspondence of any separatist leader with Pakistan has come in public domain. It is also for the first time that some separatist has reacted to the abrogation of the special status and hailed the enemy country for its so call support. |
