JAMMU, Nov 27: Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu as a part their Lecture series organized a Public Talk on "Dalit Women's Life Narratives as an agency for social change".
Dr. Parveen Kumari, Assistant Professor of English, Central University of Jammu was main speaker on the occasion. Prof. Monika Sethi, Head, Department of English, University of Jammu presided over the function.
Dr. Parveen Kumari in her talk focused on the emergence of Dalit literature as social, realistic and revolutionary in nature. She talked about life narratives in Dalit women's context, a socially excluded group, which through articulation is moving from exclusion to inclusion.
Dalit women in their life narratives narrate pain, sufferings and struggle making them as an agency for social change. Prof. Monika Sethi in her presidential remarks focused on more comparative studies regarding Dalit narratives which demand empathy and not pity from the readers. She appreciated the speaker for her well articulated research work on Dalit women writers.
Prof. Jasbir Singh, Director, CSSEIP formerly welcomed the guests and introduced the invited speaker. The programme was conducted by Dr. Neharica Subhash, and Dr. Rahul Kundal presented formal vote of thanks. Others who graced the function were Prof. Suman Jamwal, Prof. Sharda Sharma, Prof. Anupama Vohra, Dr. Anju Thappa, Dr. Suresh V. Rao, Dr. Garima Gupta Dr. Tirath Raj Bhoi, Dr. Priyanka Katoch, Dr. Saranjit Kaur, Dr. Puja Sharma, Twinkle Mohan, students and scholars from Social Sciences and English department. |
