BJP yet to evolve consensus on name of J&K president | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 24: Contrary to the claims of BJP leadership party leadership is yet to arrive at a consensus on the name of president of the party. Hectic lobbying is going on within the party to capture the top post and some senior leaders are also projecting them loyalists for the same. Credible sources said that earlier the present party president Ravinder Raina was sure to retain the top position but the situation has been changed during the last one week because some claimants have utilized services of their mentors at New Delhi. Now many leaders have stake their claims on the post of president of J&K BJP through their mentors at the central level. Under Ravinder Raina’s leadership BJP had retained its tally of winning three Lok Sabha seats in the Parliament elections but the humiliating defeat of the party in recently held Block Development Councils (BDCs) elections has provided opportunity to Raina’s opponents to ‘challenge’ his leadership abilities. In the BDC elections-which were boycotted by Congress and National Conference (NC), BJP had performed very badly and except Kishtwar district party had failed to gain majority in any other district of Jammu province. Raina had even failed to win majority in his home constituency of Nowshera. He lost Lambari-which is his home block. Decision of the party to send national general secretary Murli Dhar Rao has fuelled speculations that there was no consensus among leadership on new president. Credible sources said that crushing defeat of the party in Jharkhand assembly elections has forced party leadership not to impose its decision on new J&K president but imposition of president would create anger among local leaders.
