| Illegal saw mills, Govt authorities fail to act amid allegations of favouritism | | | Early Times Report
Noshwera, Jan 4: Government authorities in Rajouri's Nowshera division have failed to act against the illegal saw mills being run by timber mafia in the area.
Saw mills, which can only be installed in any area after due permission, are biggest threat to environment especially in terms of deforestation. Locals of Nowshera, Sunderbani, Siot, Qila Darhal and Beri Pattan Tehsils said that a large number of illegal saw mills are being run in the area with concerned authorities have failed to ensure regulation of mills as per norms. " Illegal saw mills are also a cause of mass scale deforestation," said locals who alleged that Forest Department is acting as a mute spectator to it even after being well aware of all the issue. Divisional Forest Officer Nowshera Suresh Manda assured to look into the matter. He appealed people to inform about locations of illegal saw mills which however showed unaware approach of department towards illegal saw mills. |
