Early Times Report
Anantnag, Jan 6: The business of Private Nursing Homes in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is flourishing as the lone Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCH) continue to lack basic facilities along with commitment and passion among the serving staff at MCH, giving space to active ‘mafia’ pushing poor patients to get looted in private nursing homes . Details accessed by Early Times that around 1674 LSCS surgeries were conducted in Anantnag district during three months of October, November and December out of which 652 surgeries were conducted in seven different nursing homes of the of town. Out of 1674, 1,022 LSCS surgeries were conducted at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag. In the month of October 184 1,022 LSCS surgeries were conducted in Private Nursing Homes of Anantnag town, 202 in the November and 266 in the month of December. Highly placed sources told Early Times that a mafia had gone active in the hospital that is motivating patients and their families to avail the facilities of private nursing homes. “Major portion of the doctors and paramedical staff working in the hospital are directly or indirectly linked with these private nursing homes and they motive the patients and their families by telling them that the hospital lacks facilities,” revealed sources, adding these staffers aren’t being even transferred. They claimed that those doctors and paramedical staff have converted the hospital into a ‘motivation center’ and poor people are being looted. “20% business in medical stream could have been a norm but 19% excess means disaster in offing. giving flip to crony capitalists who have a vulturastic dimension behind the package and will definitely tell upon the performance of public healthcare institutions south Kashmir in general and Anantnag in particular,” said noted author and a researcher Rao Farman Ali, adding that lack of basic facilities at the Maternity and Child Care Hospital pushes patients to private Nursing Homes. He said majority of doctors have put their selves on sale despite taking hypocritical oath to serve the suffering and ailing humanity as per the prescribed norms of healthcare. Rao said that Jammu and Kashmir Government doesn’t have actionable prescription audit due to which money of poor patients is being drained out from their petty pockets. Important mention here that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary has sought a detailed and ‘confidential’ report from the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education after it came in his notice that hospital authorities instead of conducting basic tests at the hospital were asking people to get those tests done at private laboratories. Principal Government Medical College Anantnag Dr Showket Jeelani when contacted said that he will look into the issue. |
