Jammu, Jan 6: The e-coaching and e-learning initiative taken by JK Libraries in the year 2016-17 is almost closed as a very small number of aspirants have been taking benefit of the scheme. Moreover the electronic tabs purchased by the department to the tune of several Lakhs, have been gathering dust in various libraries. Sources in the department informed Early Times that the state government in the year 2016-17 had unveiled, what they claimed as one of the biggest e-coaching and e-learning initiatives. “It was taken with an aim to provide quality coaching and comprehensive solutions to students aspiring to appear in NEET, JEE and CET”, sources said, adding that under the scheme, video lectures, e-books, written notes were available to the students of state, free of cost. Sources further said that the government had purchased several Computer-tabs of Samsung-company and same were distributed among the Tehsil and District Libraries, which have been gathering dust for the last two years. The computer-tabs were given to the Libraries, so that students could get in touch with the mentors online for any queries. Being not in use, these eletronic items, will ultimately go kaput, sources said. “The aspirants for NEET, JAE, CAE can get the benefit of e-coaching by simply filling an enrolment form in the nearby Public Libraries. They could take benefit of the e-learning material, in the public libraries, which was prepared by 100 IIT toppers of the country”, sources said. Sources further said that for the first year the Library department had taken the initiative with much fanfare but later on the initiative was forgotten. “Under the scheme the management of Public Libraries have to organize public outreach programme in the schools, to attract the students to join the libraries. It was also decided to organize career counselling programmes”, sources said, adding that but for the last two years, there was no thrust on the initiative, due to which very least number of students have been visiting the libraries. Pertinently, nearly 2,500 plus hours of video lectures, 75,000 questions with answers, 150 e-books and hard books was to be made available in the public libraries of Jammu and Kashmir. Director General Libraries was not available for comments, while Deputy Director Libraries, didn’t pick up her phone despite repeated calls.
