Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 31: Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre and the Department of Botany, Jammu University (JU) today jointly organized first ever Skill Development Course on Mushroom Cultivation. The course was inaugurated by Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj Dhar. While inaugurating the course, Prof. Dhar emphasized on the need of skill based training programs to instill employable skills in the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. "To equip the participants with the basic and scientific skills required for mushroom cultivation; followed by hand holding of the trainees for setting up of small business houses would remain the main objective of the course", said Prof. Dhar. Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India under its RUSA 2.0 initiative has chosen University of Jammu as a nodal centre to cater to the societal needs of the youth seeking employment. On the occasion, Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Sciences and Coordinator RUSA 2.0 University of Jammu deliberated on the need of self employment generation and role of these courses in boosting entrepreneurship in J&K. Earlier, Prof. Sameer Gupta, Convener, UESDC and Director, TBS, JU welcomed the dignitaries and thanked the Heads and coordinators of various Departments and participants of the course. Dr. Sikander Pal, coordinator of the course introduced the audience about the structure and objectives of the course. Prof. Namrata Sharma, Head, Dept of Botany, shared her views about the role of skill-based trainings in shaping the career of the youth seeking employment. She also acknowledged the role of Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Dept. of Botany as a pioneer in establishing mushroom cultivation in the JU campus. Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Provost Boys Hostel JU, spoke on pressing need of such courses in mushroom cultivation as it can improve the economical prospects of the cultivators and could meet the nutritional deficiencies among the people of the region. |
