JAMMU, Jan 31: Peoples Democratic Party led by Mehbooba Mufti is all set to become history as the leaders, who deserted the party for one or other reason, are making every attempt to emerge as a new political force in Kashmir. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Former minister and PDP leader Altaf Bukhari making the first move to set the political process rolling in Kashmir is an indication that many leaders like Bukhari are waiting for a chance to become the part of the new set up in Kashmir.” He said that post August 5, 2019 political scenario in Kashmir has changed. “The hegemony of the Kashmir centric leaders has ended. They can no longer dictate terms and claim that Chief Minister has to be from Kashmir. The new political dispensation which will be formed after the elections are held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will have a different shape altogether,” the analyst added. He said that former chief minister of erstwhile J&K State, Mehbooba Mufti, who had inherited the PDP and Chief Minister’s office from her father late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed stands at crossroads with nobody to fall back upon. Not even her own family members, whom she groomed during all these years. An observer said, “Had Mehbooba groomed the genuine leaders today she would not have been standing alone. After assuming Chief Minister’s office she shifted her entire focus on her kith and kin. They ruled the PDP and J&K also.” He said that the PDP former MLAs who have joined hands with Bukhari and are supporting his political initiative were sidelined by Mehbooba during her tenure. “They were turned into non-entities and had no role either in the government or the party. Mehbooba called her cinematographer brother, Tasqduq Mufti, from Mumbai and inducted him as Tourism Minister in her cabinet. Many deserving MLAs who were eligible to become ministers were ignored at one or other pretext. Mehbooba is reaping what she had sown. No one, including her relatives, is seeking her release from the detention. The leaders, who could have stood by her at this point of time, were deserted by her when she was the queen,” the observer added. Another analyst said, “As the situation is emerging it looks like that new front will emerge in Kashmir as the Bharatiya Janata Party too has not made any major impact in the Valley. Dynamics of politics in Kashmir is changing at a very fast pace. In coming days many things are likely to fall at place.” |
