‘Catch 22’ situation for Doctors over private practices, H&ME yet to take final call | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 31: As the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department of Jammu and Kashmir yet is undecided over the private practices of the serving doctors whether it should go for the ban it like other Union Territories or not, the medicos fraternity too is in ‘Catch 22’ situation as some look for a ban while others not. As soon as Jammu and Kashmir has become a Union Territory since then a lot of debate has been generating over imposition, a ban on the private practice of medicos has generated a lot of debate and following the huge hue and cry the doctor fraternity has divided over the blanket ban on the practices. Giving example of other States along with UTs, Officials of the H&ME Department told that, their governments have taken the strict step to streamline the functioning of the Health Department and ensured that no one government doctors is allowed to do so but in here there is no monitoring which will look that orders are followed by the concerned authorities or not. Instead of restricting of all government doctors to do private practices, the officials emphasized that the UT government should ban private practices in phase manner, firstly the same of the Medical Colleges’ doctors, should be banned, from where doctors are being produced. And then they will move toward reaming government doctors. Earlier, official sources added that some days back the process to ban the private practices was examined and it appeared that it was high time to provide impetus to the same. Interestingly, the same issue appeared in various dailies but after that nothing has been done due to influential doctors, who don’t want to ban private practices in the Jammu and Kashmir. “Last many years, the Health Ministers and Commissioner Secretaries were transferred who were rhetoric about private practices but no one has taken any step to stop the practices for best reasons known to them,” they claimed, adding that various steps are being taken to streamline the functioning of the Health Institutes but the strict action is still yet to take. Some doctors believed that the decision to ban private practice should not be taken in a hurry as it will hit healthcare in Jammu and Kashmir in the shortage of healthcare options. The ban on the practice will needy become sufferer due to costly healthcare. And they also believed that to get a consultation from doctors in the government hospitals is the most difficult task, while as doctors are easily available at their clinics. Financial Commissioner Atal Dulloo was not available for comments. |
