Backyard Horticulture plantation programme launched in Jammu division
Secretary pitches for ensuring plant survival to achieve the set goals

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 01- Department of Horticulture today launched Back Yard Horticulture Plantation Programme under which 150 lakh families of Jammu division will have at least three fruit saplings for plantation in the backyard of their houses.

Secretary Horticulture, Manzoor Ahmed Lone, inaugurated the programme at Jammu district in presence of Director Horticulture Jammu, R.K. Katoch besides other officers of the department from Panchayat Ghar Mishriwalla, Bhalwal block.

Pertinently, about 35,000 families of Jammu district have been identified for coverage in February and March under this ambitious programme.

Similarly, several events under the programme were launched in other districts of Jammu Division by the respective Deputy Commissioners.

Secretary Horticulture, while addressing on the occasion, exhorted upon the farmers to ensure survival of these plants for success of this unique initiative of the department. "The degree of survival of these fruit plants will help in achieving the set goals under the programme", he added. He said that about 1.05 lakh saplings will be planted in Jammu district during the programme.
