Horticulture launches backyard plantation

Jammu, Feb 1: The Department of Horticulture launched Back Yard Horticulture Plantation Programme in which 150 lakh families of Jammu Division will have at least three fruit Plants for planting in the Back Yard of their houses.
In Jammu district about 35000 families are identified for plantation in the month of February and March. The programme at Jammu district was inaugurated by the Secretary Horticulture Manzoor Ahmed Lone (IAS) in the presence of Director Horticulture Jammu R.K. Katoch (KAS) along with other officers of the department from Panchayat Ghar Mishriwala block Bhalwal. Similarly programme was also launched in other districts of Jammu Division in the presence of their respective Deputy Commissioners. On the occasion secretary Horticulture stressed upon the farmer to ensure survival of these plants. He said that during programme 1.05 lacs plants will be planted in Jammu district and if 85 to 90 percent survival of these plants is ensured and if it this continues for 8 to 10 years then about 9 to10 lakh new fruit plants will come up in the Back Yard of the Houses of Jammu district which will definitely raise the economic status of farmers and improve surrounding environment in next few years.
