Despite repeated directions from Admin, concerned depts reluctant to demolish structures

Nowshera, Feb 1: Although several government offices buildings have been declared unsafe yet the concerned departments have been showing reluctance to carry out demolition of these buildings, which have been posing serious life threat to the locals living adjacent to these structures.
Moreover, the Nowshera Administration seems to be non serious towards this grave issue by not taking strict action against the concerned departments for not complying the order, which can be proved disastrous.
Sources told Early Times that it has been decades since these building were declared unsafe and subsequently the offices functioning in these buildings were evacuated and shifted to some rented buildings but these abandoned buildings have not been demolished despite repeated orders from the local admin, and this non serious approach has become risky for the people living near these building and the passerby. “Among these unsafe buildings, one building belongs to Forest department, where Range Office in Ward No. 10 of Nowshahra used to function. Nearly 15 years ago, the building was declared unsafe and was vacated.
Similarly the other building belong to Co-operative Society in the same ward mentioned above and was declared unsafe around 20 years ago and both buildings are in town which remain busy with people but shockingly, despite deplorable conditions of these buildings, which can collapse any point of time , the same have not been demolished yet,” they alleged.
They further said that these buildings are lying deserted and are being used for illegal activities by drug addicts who take drugs in these buildings and being used as toilets. “The shifted offices are functioning in private building and paying huge rent. Although concerned departments should demolish these buildings and construct new one as these buildings are located in prime locations and to save rent,” they said. While talking to Early Times, RohitKohli, Corporator Ward No. 10 said that these building should be demolished immediately to avert any untoward incident, which can take place any time.
ADC Nowshera ,Sukhdev Singh Sambyal, when contacted said that they have ordered to these departments many times verbally to demolish the buildings but till date they have not complied with the order.
