Azad to take command to revive ‘demoralized’ Congress in Jammu and Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 1: Following failure of the incumbent leadership to reactive the party in J&K, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to return to the J&K politics to review ‘badly shattered’ confidence of party workers in J&K, ahead of the forthcoming assembly polls. Only one year tenure GhulamNabi Azad is left in the Rajya Sabha so before completion of his tenure he is going to establish himself in the politics of J&K again. During his recent visit in Jammu, Azad had tried to convince ‘demoralized’ party cadre that “Congress is still a strong force in Jammu region and there is need to establish contact with the common masses”. Credible sources during two-day marathon meeting at Jammu, Azad had hinted that he will play active role in the state politics to ensure that Congress will return to power in J&K in the assembly elections. He dropped hints that he was going to take command of the party in J&K to retrieve the lost ground. Notable earlier Azad was Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president in the month of May 2002 when party was facing similar situation in J&K ahead of assembly polls. Under the leadership of Azad, Congress returned to power as party had formed coalition government with PDP under the leadership of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. After 2002 assembly elections, Azad was again shifted back to national politics. Incumbent president of PCC, G A Mir is trying his best to revive the s. Most of the senior leaders within Congress are not ready to give space to young generations so party could not develop secondline leaders in J&K. |
