Bhatnagar takes stock of water supply situation

JAMMU, Feb 11: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, took stock of the water supply situation in various parts of Jammu region in view of the ongoing strike of Daily Wagers. He issued instructions to the Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu, and other field officers to ensure un-interrupted water supply to every area so that no inconvenience is caused to the general public due to ongoing strike of DRWs. The Commissioner/Secretary, PHE/I&FC, Mr. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, in his report to the Advisor has informed that nearly 90% systems are functioning and water supply is being ensured to all the areas. For this purpose the existing regular staffs of civil and mechanical wings have been put on round the clock services. Besides services of some staff of Irrigation Department has been utilised. All the XENs, AEEs, AEs and JEs are regularly visiting all the pumping stations and installations to ensure uninterrupted water supply. To ease out the pressure 86 Government and private tankers have been pressed into service to ensure supplies to the uncovered and affected areas. Sahu informed that the department is making all out efforts to quickly repair the damages and restore the supplies. The department has reported 51 sabotage cases to the police authorities so far for taking acation against the miscreants. Wherever needed police have been deployed for ensuring safety and security of vital installations. The Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu, has also appealed to the people to ensure judicious use of water and to provide support to the local staff of the PHE Department in maintaining the services.
