Jammu, Feb 11: Motives accomplished , dreams unfilled is the basic story of the play Chauthi Cigarette produced by Danish Iqbal for Rangsaaz, New Delhi in the ongoing Nutan International Theatre Festival-2020 organised by Lakshya-The Aim and Nutan Pryas Manch at Abhinav Theatre. The play written by Yogesh Tripathi is based on the human necessities for fulfillment of their desires which they pursue in their lives , but yet remain in illusion despite being successful to some extent . It is a natural part of life’s theme with everybody-the rich and the poor who have their respective desires for fullment and when find their motives achieved by some means remain un-contented too. Chauthi Cigarrette brings to the fore about a void that remain unfilled in human efforts towards life’s desired accomplishments which does not brings the enduring satisfaction. The story revolves around Vireshwar & Samrendu, where they strike a deal which would lead to fulfillment of one’s dream and the necessities of other. Vireshwar who is a Bangla writer, works as a columnist for a newspaper and somehow manages to earn his livelihood. He leads a middle class life with his three children and wife whereas Samrendu is a big industrialist who wants to be a writer. Some of Vireshwar’s creations are so brilliant that it gets Samrendu “The Booker Prize Award”, when he publishes them under his name and Vireshwar gets the royalty for selling his creation to Samrendu. Both the central characters achieve their motives yet the accomplishment leaves them unsatisfied and unhappy in the end. A trained actor from National School of Drama 2002 batch, Danish spends his time working off stage as a scholar. He has earned Master’s in classical acting from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London and did his PhD on ‘Inclusion of folk elements in Shakespeare’s plays performed in Hindi’. A prolific actor and director, Danish has been working on Radio, TV, Cinema and Theatre. The set design was minimal and efficient. Sound and light design complemented the narrative perfectly well. Use of the stage is done beautifully and thoughtfully. All the characters in the play put up a matured skill of perfection in acting and producing varied undertones of dialogues about desire and fulfillment. Effective lights combination with music rendered special affect to the production that was highly appreciated by the audience.
