Day chill intensifies due to overcast conditions, night temp improves in Valley
2/12/2020 6:26:53 PM

Srinagar, Feb 12 Chilly weather conditions have intensified due to over cast conditions in Kashmir Valley, where light to moderate rain and snow is predicted at most places during the next 36 hours under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.

However, there was major improvement in the night temperature across the Valley, where mercury settled several degrees above normal due to cloudy skies.

A Met department spokesperson told that light to moderate rain or snow would occur during the next 36 hours in Valley under the influence of the WD, which originated from Arabian Sea.

However, he said the weather will again turn dry from Friday onwards though that will result in dip in the minimum temperature.

The night temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, improved further and settled above freezing point. Against minus 0.2 degree recorded on Tuesday, the night temperature in the city was 1.4 degree, which is about 3 degree above normal. However, people woke up to a chilly Wednesday morning in the city, where overcast conditions continued throughout the day. People could be seen wearing jackets, sweaters and pheran (traditional Kashmiri cloak), to evade chilly weather conditions in the city.

The skies at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, remained cloudy throughout the day on Wednesday, resulting in dip in the day temperature. But, the night temperature at the health resort improved about 5 degree from Tuesday and settled at minus 0.6 degree, which is several degrees above normal.

Due to overcast night conduction, the mercury at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag also improved and settled at 1 degree, minus 0.6 degree and minus 0.1 degree, respectively.
